Death Without Mercy, Screenign & Q&A with Fouad Sayed Issa

April 7 @ 8:30 pm - 10:30 pm

Join us for a special screening of Death Without Mercy, the latest documentary by Oscar-nominated Syrian filmmaker Waad Al-Kateab (For Sama).
About the film:
Five years after her Oscar-nominated film For Sama, Syrian filmmaker and journalist Waad Al-Kateab returns with Death Without Mercy—a searing documentary that delves into the political and human cost of the 2023 earthquake that devastated southern Turkey and northwestern Syria.
Combining mobile phone footage, surveillance video, and news broadcasts, Al-Kateab reconstructs the chaos and tragedy that unfolded in a region home to thousands of displaced Syrians. Focusing on two of the many victims and the families they left behind, the film reveals a disaster that was not only natural but deeply political.
Death Without Mercy exposes how state corruption and systemic neglect turned a predictable earthquake into a mass-casualty event. Yet amid the destruction, the film also bears witness to the dignity and resistance of survivors who continue to live—and rebuild—under a merciless system.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Fuad Sayed Issa, one of the central figures in the film. Fuad is Syrian humanitarian and founder of Violet Organization, which delivers critical aid to communities affected by the Syrian conflict. The conversation will be introduced and moderated by Agob Yacoub, director of Finjan and Syrian Doc Days.
